What's Changed on COMPASS?
Since the COMPASS portal debuted in January 2004, the NSCC Internet Development Group (IDG) has created many new technology initiatives in the training field. Many of those changes have required us to add new pages and sections to COMPASS so that the portal can host all these new features. As the site has grown, however, important parts of the site have become buried under many links, and the level of organization has suffered somewhat.

COMPASS contained five major sections (CLASSROOM, TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES, NSCC/NLCC MANUALS, US NAVY COURSES, TRAINING ADMIN/COTC). We have consolidated all materials on COMPASS into four major categories which will replace the five previous ones:

  • CLASSROOM. This link will now direct you to the Classroom/Online Learning site (described below).
  • ADVANCED TRAINING (formerly TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES). Will link to Recruit Training Schedules, AT Schedules, IEP info, Escort Officer information, Shipboard Orientation Guide, and Locally Arranged Training (new page which will incorporate Color Guard & USN Sponsor information).
  • CADET ADVANCEMENT (new). Will link to Advancement/Training manual, NLCC Syllabus, NSCC/USN Correspondence Courses, "Dummies" manual.
  • OFFICER ADVANCEMENT (new). Will link to Advancement/Training Manual, Officer Professional Development dates, Officer/MIDN Study Guide (OMSG).

NSCC/NLCC MANUALS and US NAVY COURSES will be eliminated and their contents merged where appropriate.

COMPASS CLASSROOM SITE

In addition to the clean-up work on COMPASS, the newest project at the portal is also the largest and most exciting to date. We will be launching a brand new “Classroom/Online Learning” branch of COMPASS. This site will be available to NSCC personnel beginning 01 August 2005.

The Classroom/Online Learning site will be stacked with lesson plans, training aids, and a comprehensive reading & research section for unit training officers and personnel. This site will become a “go-to” page for units needing help with their training regimen.

In addition to the vast new content, the Classroom site will inherit the following information from COMPASS:

  • All information within the current CLASSROOM section of COMPASS
  • All Officer Professional Development (OPD) course materials
  • NSCC/USN Correspondence Courses which are NOT needed for NSCC Advancement

All these changes will take place on 01 August 2005. Your feedback has directly led to these changes, and we’re excited to bring them to you.
